When a farmer waits months for rain to sow crops in his fields, and the temperature rises up to 45-48 degrees Celsius during the summer, compost becomes a lifesaver for plants seeking nutrients. Farmers are well aware of the fact that cultivation is different in drought-prone areas as compared to rain fed land. Vantage provides farmers with both technical and theoretical knowledge. We hold training sessions on farmer fields to illustrate various composting techniques.
Composting includes the natural way of recycling organic waste such as food scraps, leaves, and others and is influenced by the variables of the composting system, such as oxygen, temperature, moisture, organic waste, and microbial population.
How to prepare compost?
- Select plain land for compost heap in partial shade
- Moisten the land by sprinkling water on land
- Chop the dry material into small pieces for easy decomposing
- Prepare decomposing culture Effective Microorganism (EM Culture) 1 lit EM +2 Kg Jagerry +Sufficient water
- Prepare EM culture solution and add sufficient 18 lit water in a plastic container and seal it by cap allow it for 5-7 days for proper multiplication of Microorganisms.
- After 5-7 days take smell test and visual test of the EM solution
Bed Installation
- Prepare a layer of one feet of chopped Dry material (wheat straw)
- Sprinkle sufficient water on it for moistening
- Dilute EM solution in 500-1000 lit of water as per requirement.
- Sprinkle decomposing mixture (Diluted EM Culture)
- Then spread a layer of dung, then a soil layer of 2-3 inches
- Sprinkle a culture mixture on it
- Then 1ft layer of green leaves of leguminous, neem& weed
- Sprinkle a culture mixture and water on it
- Spread the soil of 2-3 inches layer and sprinkle culture mixture
- Repeat the procedure until at least 4-6 ft. height is attained
- Plaster the heap with dung & soil slurry
- Check the heap first time after 18-20 days when the heap size reduces to 1 ft from initial application.
- Plaster the heap if required with dung & soil slurry
- After 28-30 days, the compost is ready for application
- Test for completion of Compost: It smells good and color turns reddish black like tea powder.
